We are moving up from a 17′ Jayco Hummingbird to the Retro 199FKS.  We have a Nissan Frontier Crew Cab for our tow vehicle with a towing capacity of 6300 lbs, and we’re looking forward to more living space and a real bathroom.  We fell in love with the retro look and can’t wait till we get ours.

Welcome to the Retro World.  May God grant you many fun and safe trips.  You may also want to check out the Riverside Owners Forum.  There are great people on both sites.

Thank you, we’ll check it out.  It’s great discovering this community of Retro owners willing to their experiences, concerns, tips and mods with their rigs.  We know that the Retros have been evolving over the years that they have been in production, and having owners share their findings with each other is really valuable information for us.  We have a lot to learn about our future Retro.  We look forward to our new journey.

You are correct, the Retro has been evolving over the last 3 or 4 years.  Riverside in Lagrange, IN is one of the fastest growing RV manufactures in the country.  All of us who have talked to the manufacturing folks can tell you that they are constantly listening to their customers and improving their units.  Riverside has one of the best, if not the best, trailers on the road.  The last copy of Trailer Life Magazine had a short article stating that Riverside uses aluminum siding that is almost twice as thick as all other trailer manufactures.  I pray yours is in tip top shape.  Give is an excellent look over and any little thing you feel needs to be corrected should be done before you take it home.  Best wishes always.

I joined the Riverside Owners Forum at your suggestion, thank you!  I saw the article in Trailer Life you mentioned and found it reassuring that we’ve made the right choice in TT.

At present, we’re wondering how our Nissan Frontier is going to handle towing the 199, we have mixed feelings about it.  Thinking about adding air bags to the truck and the equalizer weight distribution system.  Packing light for the first trip is a must with bare essentials to check out the towing ability of our truck.

When we pick up the Trailer we’ll be spending the night at the Dealership to check out the camper for problems, then head out camping at a campground 2 miles away from the dealership followed by a stop over back there to take care of any problems we may have found.  Thank you for your comments.

The sway bars and weight distribution hitch is something I always prefer.  As to the towing capacity of your Nissan, I have to defer to your dealer and manufacturer.
