My wife and I are considering creating a space on our property where we would be able to host a camper for a day or two for those who are traveling through our area. We live in Bismarck, ND and feel that this would be a great way to meet others who enjoy camping, discuss fun things to do while camping, and make new friends. We would only have one spot so it would be a nice spot to pull off the road and spend an evening or two and maybe take in some of the attractions Bismarck would have to offer. Although we live in the city we have a nice piece of property and it would not cost anything for the campers. It would be only for those who are looking for a relatively quite spot to pull into for an evening or two complete with a secret garden area with a pergola and a grill to cook out. Has anyone ever tried this and if so has it been a rewarding experience. We both feel the friends we would make and areas and opportunities we would have as a result of sharing what we have would be so worth the work of creating a space that would be enjoyable and attractive for those passing through our area. We are both still working but want to plan for the years directly before us and want to meet people from all over and instill a sense of adventure with our new 177SE. Any feedback would be appreciated on this idea we have.

Sounds like a great idea. I for one would prefer that over a campground. I too have pondered the idea and then I come to my senses… Liability insurance could be spendy as I’m sure your regular home owners policy wouldn’t cover that. How much? $1,000,000 at a minimum. Just saying. That said, would you offer full hookups? I will be interested in your final decision. Good luck….

Thanks for the response. I do carry a rider on my policy. My thoughts on this are creating opportunities to meet those who are traveling, enjoy conversation and share experiences while camping. If necessary and legal to do, probably would have to have some kind of binding release signed before pulling in. Hate to do that but can never be too careful. For us it would just make more sense for us to create a space where one could pull in for the evening, hook up to the electrical, and relax while traveling from one spot to another. I would hope those that were traveling would appreciate the convenience and not look for the opportunity to get rich quick. I do understand where you are coming from though and would have to take the necessary steps to prevent that. I think it would be a great way to meet people like you, who think alike and want to share their space with others and open up opportunities to visit others areas in the US for an evening or two in a relaxing atmosphere.
