Amazing, one key for home and at last count, 7 for the retro! How crazy is that? Door, spare tire, propane tanks, hitch, receiver, generator,

outside storage doors. As the old saying goes, locks only keep honest people out!

I’m up to 4 keys on my retro. I really wish one key would fit everything.

Yes, two rings of keys! One set stays in the center console of the truck, just in case. Extra set of truck keys in wife’s purse and a spare truck door key in my wallet!! Can’t be to careful.

I think I’m at half a dozen:

Entry door and storage spaces for the Retro = 2. We’ve replaced both, but still have two keys. DH didn’t like the fact the storage keys were so commonly used, so changed those locks when we bought it. We had a failure on the door lock earlier this year, so replaced that. We also had to file down the screws holding the strike plate, it made the door difficult to open, worse when the sun was on the door.

Draw bar, coupler lock, LP/battery lock, matched locks on the cable that secures the EMS or solar panel, depending on which is being used = 4

There are a couple more keys included with the camping set, but I have to see if they are in current use. Thanks for reminding me to inventory them. I only carry the vehicle and trailer keys, the rest live in the truck since they are only necessary when setting up or taking down camp.

I have two keys.  One for the lock to the door and one for the storage areas.  Should I get locks for other parts of the trailer?  I was told by the dealer that the basement locks/keys are pretty much the same on every trailer so I may switch those out at some point but I haven’t considered locking other parts of the trailer.

You are right… Almost everyone at the campground has a key to fit some lock on yours. I really don’t worry when I leave my trailer for the day at campgrounds, or when it is home in the driveway. For me, it is the times when the unit is left in a parking lot, be it a store or when we stop at some attraction and leave the truck/trailer unattended for a period of time. Most people are honest, however there is always that element lurking. Use your best judgement, but don’t be a victim, and remember that locks only keep honest people out, but they will make life difficult for the bad guys! Good luck.

All of our security measures are to slow down the opportunistic thief or vandal. Some of them, such as the coupler locking pin, also serve as double-checks for us to know we have things latched correctly, etc. For the two outside storage doors on our 177, the locking latch is what holds the door shut (the longer one has a second, unlocked turn-latch).

I always hide a spare key somewhere in my vehicle, which is not accessible to everyone. One set with me. When I’m away, I make sure my home, valuables, vehicles and dear ones all are safe. I have a smart home monitoring systems installed to ensure complete safety.

I’m planning a road trip in coming days. So making all arrangements to prepare my home for vacation. I have top notch locks (Grade one) and door hardware which is strong to withstand strong kicks.

Though we take all measures to protect, all systems have their own flaws which a thief takes advantage of. Having said that, security measures will slow down a potential thief or intruder.
